I am in the last phase of medication changes in my treatment plan from the Amen Clinic. I am feeling a small, subtle difference in the way I feel. I am longing for a normal day where everything I do isn't an effort.

I started on Neurontin in March of 2010 and started coming off clonazepam. I have now been off clonazepam for over 3 months. I am slowly going on Effexor XR, and coming off Luvox. I am on 112.5 mg of Effexor XR, and 25 mg of Luvox twice per day. I will continue to raise the dose of Effexor XR until I feel more relief of my symptoms. I will continue to lower the dose of Luvox until I am off.

I had been on 15 different drug combinations in a year and a half before I decided to go to the Amen Clinic in Newport Beach, California. I felt my doctor here at home continued to guess incorrectly what medications would be helpful. The SPECT scans done on my brain at the Amen Clinic gave my psychiatrist there more information on how to treat my illness. I have an atypical depression that needs to be treated in layers, with the anxiety being treated first.

I am hopeful and looking for that normal day in the distance. Thank you for your support and interest!

Sincerely,
Caramel

Hi Caramel, I'm sooooo glad to hear your good news! I too, wish for a day of serenity. But for now, I have to play the county's mental health game, allowing them to throw darts at me until one finds the bullseye, I have no choice but to endure the gamut of sub-prime care. I know most of the T's and P'docs care, but there hands are tied and when it comes to priorities, I'm sure not at the head of the line.

Hi Mrhomercat,

I am so sorry you do not see a day of serenity in your near future!

If you would be willing I would like to know more details about your county's mental health game. Please explain the sub-prime care. I am thinking the darts being thrown at you are the guesses at what medication would be helpful for you.

I believe everyone should be able to receive good medical care without it being expensive. I saw a bumper sticker on a car the other day that said, "Good Health Care Is Not A Luxury." I agree with it.
