The doctor prescribed me some medication yesterday. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experiences with anti depressants. He told me that weird side affects shouldn't happen, but the pharmacist said they could either make me really sleepy or really excited.

Hello TruthReign! My experience and observations suggest side effects occur more frequently than the official statistics indicate. Your pharmacist probably told you about the most common side effects reported by those taking your specific medication.

During the next few weeks, as the drugs build up in your system, you may experience any number of things that may or may not go away with time. It's important for you to take note of everything and report them to your doctor. The more information your doctor has, the better they can adjust what you're taking.

Wishing you success!

Hi TruthReign. Welcome! I do agree with Rohag. It's important to make a note of what you're experiencing as your body adjusts to the meds, and to talk to your doctor about any troubling symptoms.

I have experienced side effects when starting a couple of anti-depressants, and no side effects at all when starting others (I've tried most of the anti-depressants over the years). Everyone responds differently.......Hopefully any side effects you do experience will be mild and short-lived. Good luck to you! Let us know how you are doing!

hey there
think everyone has mixed experiences with meds and as result some people agree or disagree with them
. i was on lexapro for a few months but found had to keep uping the dose so eventually switched to prozac.this didnt seem to work at first so yep, upped the dosage which made me turn into a zombie.i literally just ate and slept - just about functioning. put the dose back down and it remained that way for a while. after a good few months when the prozac didnt seem to be having much affect on my moods i got taken off it. and then after a few months i found i was feeling better.strange right? i guess thats one thing you have to try,if you think something isnt working dont be afraid to say so xo

Thank you for all your responses! I appreciate them. I promised myself that I would take the first pill tonight but I chickened out once again. You see, my parents are against the idea of me taking medication because they say that they would rather me deal with it naturally. I would too, to be honest. The only difficulty in my situation is that I have 8 weeks (is 8 weeks a long time??) left of school and I know that it's school that's making me depressed. The depression is making me unable to focus on my school work, and if I get bad grades this semester I won't be able to continue my education later in life like I had originally planned. So my ideal plan was to take the medication while in school, and when summer rolls around, see if I would still like to take them.

I can relate I rather not be on meds also cause of the stupid side effects and I want it naturally too and thats a good thing that you dont want to have too take a pill for everything.

What side effects you may or may not have depends totally on what type of anti-depressant you are on. Me, I've been on pretty much everything and had a myriad of side effects...
