Perhaps your mother was aware of this? Even so, I assume your psychiatrist is aware of your history. |

I agree with Byz - if the suicidal thinking gets worse, then Prozac may increase these thoughts.

I can see why your mom is "spazzing out". As a mother myself I can relate to her fear. It is a very very very scary thing having a child with suicidal thoughts. Teenagers are known to be very impulsive, and the Prozac might contribute to that.
The fact that you mom is "keeping a close eye on you" shows how much she cares about you. She doesn't want anything happening to you. She's "spazzing out" for a very good reason, she loves you. She's probably well aware of the warning on Prozac, that it can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors in teens. Losing a child is the absolute worst thing that can happen to a parent. Of course your mom doesn't want that to happen. She's scared for you because she loves you. I hope the Prozac will help you feel better, please tell your mom if it makes you feel worse. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I was concerned when my son started taking anti-depressants too. Exactly because of the increased rate of suicide in teens. I expressed my concerns with the prescribing psychiatrist, and he addressed the statistical data and how that related to my son's condition. After our conversation, I was reassured that the benefits out-weighed the risks, and that he was responsibly monitoring and prescribing the medication. Perhaps your doctor is willing to have this sort of discussion with your mother?

Your mother is worrying about her baby. She is very concerned for you well being. I think if you sit down with her and honestly discuss how you are feeling at the moment it may go alone way in reducing some of her concerns. She is you mother and she will always worry about you. It is a great thing that she cares about you so much. She truly loves you. I am guessing ( and probably just guessing ), but I bet she would do anything in her power to take away your pain and make you feel whole again. One thing if for sure, you need to talk to someone ANYONE if your suicidal feelings get worse and become unmanageable.

If you feel you are making progress in your finding resolutions to your healing and coping with your anxiety and depression - then you really do need to sit down with your mother and explain to her why you feel that it is important that you begin this medication. She needs to be a part of your therapy Angel and I know that seems to be difficult for the both of you mainly because of a lack of communication on both parts.
In my opinion peaches you need to keep her informed and really try to make her a part of whats going on with you. I think it will help her and YOU tremendously. and by all means if you begin to feel that something isn't right - TALK TO SOMEONE - ANYONE!! XO Momma J |
