hello out there. I am blue beyond blue and wish to hear from you.
I've been posting but no replies yet. Still sorta new but had hoped that when I poured my heart out in my new member intro someone would respond. Does anyone ever get better from depression with out drugs? I don't want to be in a haze. |

Hi...sorry no one responded in your new member post. I have been "dealing" with depression most of the last half of my life. The first part of that time I was a minor and didnt say anything as well as acted like everything was ok. Although after one attempt my parents tried to get me on anti depressant and I stopped it for the same reason you are talking about not wanting to try it. However 13 years later I caved to the medication idea because I was tired of fighting by myself and have found meds that work for me. That being said I tend to be alot less sensitive to the side effects than most people. Med or no med is a very personal decision. Dont get me wrong I dont like meds so I am not saying to try them but if you are not, do the research on the things you can do to manage your depression and help you get out of this episode. I wish you all the best.

PBJandPickles,
I've dealt with depression for the last 9 years or so, and have been on meds for much of that time. For me, most of the meds I've tried have not caused me to be in a "haze." I think at some points, they have relieved my depression enough for me to be able to work on some of my issues in therapy. Therapy has also been a lifesaver for me. Depression is still something I struggle with, but I think I cope with and manage it much better than I did several years ago. As far as the med question goes... you describe yourself as "blue beyond blue"... have you seen a therapist or a doctor about what you are going through? Depression is a really hard thing to handle on your own. I wonder if it would be wise to seek support and get a professional opinion about if you might need meds, and what might or might not be helpful for you? I read a study a while ago that looked at how people's brains changed during therapy, and showed that therapy causes some of the same neurological changes that antidepressant medications do. Meds, therapy, both at the same time, support groups, etc... my suggestion would be to seek support in whatever way you can, to help you get through this time. And, keep posting on PC. ![]() peace, Garden Gal |

(((PBJandPICKLES))) - to answer your question - it depends on what kind of depression you have. I don't know whether you have some circumstantial causes - for example if a persons normally fine and suffers a life disappointment like a divorce, job/financial loss, death of loved one etc this can temporary depression and a good chance it would lift later on. I'll be happy to check out your New Member intro and see if I can give you some feedback. I hope you're seeking treatment from a doctor.
