Half the time I'm sure I'm depressed because I feel terrible and angry at everyone including myself. But then there's other times where I think there's no way I could be depressed. I feel fine. But then the other feeling comes back again and I can't control it. Is it possible the I'm not really depressed? Or are these mood swings part of the depression?

Hello,
Yes, people with depression can have mood swings. However, a severe depressive "episode" is a minimum 2 week period of having at least 5 of the symptoms: http://psychcentral.com/disorders/sx5.htm This doesn't mean you're not depressed, however. There are varying degrees of it, not everyone goes through a major depressive episode. Also, other mental illnesses can have temporary feelings of depression - Borderline Personality Disorder is a big one: http://psychcentral.com/lib/2007/sym...lity-disorder/ I'd like to add that I'm not at all trying to diagnose you, just trying to offer you a bit of a different perspective. I hope you are able to address your feelings of depression in a positive manner, with positive treatment. ![]() |
