Hi everyone,
I know its been a while since I've been here, but I have a question: Should I go to my University's rollerskating event on Friday alone? I have no friends. The ones that I used to have drifted away and I'm trying to make new ones. I figured going to this event would help. (Plus I love rollerskating ![]() Extra Babble (skip if you want): This is a huge deal for me, as I'm trying to take the first steps out of being a loner. My roommate and I are cordial but have very different interests (she likes to smoke, drink and party whereas I don't like any of that.) And she goes out all the time. I'm left in the apartment alone and at first it was nice, but then I got sick of the silence. I needed voices, eye contact and friendly physical touch...If anyone has any advice for me to make friends please feel free to post it. Thank you -Siempre Nada |

Go, definitely.
You've given careful, clear thought to this. Go. Enjoy. I don't think you'll stick out as a loner as much as you think--especially since you seem to enjoy skating so much. That's what people will notice first. Best wishes ![]()

Hi Siempre Nada.. I say go for it. You are making efforts to step out being "a loner". I think that you are being hard on yourself in this case. If you enjoy skating and have the desire to go, then you go girl!!! You are in a lot better shape than me. I can't even get to the step of going out to do hardly anything. It is a very positive thing that you enjoy something and feel like doing it. Don't worry about what people think. You don't have to come with a partner or leave with one. Just have a good time and let me know how it went.

Ahhh!! My roommate agreed to go with me! I'm freaking out more-so than when I was planning to go alone. Why did I even ask her? Oh..she's probably going to invite her boyfriend and then things will just be awkward...
Oh..I hope this goes well, she already thinks that I'm a loser.. Sorry for this you guys, this kinda reeks of whiny college girl. BUT..I..CAN'T..F..THIS UP..!! GAHHH! So stressed right now..gotta make a good impression. |

Just GO!!! who cares if you go alone, you'll meet new people, new friends. You can do it. I do it all the time. Go!! Just don't freak out about it. It will be okay. If it's awkward then go find some others there to talk to and have fun. Don't freak, just go!!
