The thought that it won't last forever gives me some comfort. Also, the fact that there are some aspects of life that I DO enjoy and want to experience, keeps me going through the toughest times.

The confidence that not only will it get better at sometime in the future but that when the good times come, no matter how short or sparse they are, I can and will enjoy them fully to ensure that they were worth all the crap just to get to that point.

I would say knowing that others like me exist gives me comfort and hope. Knowing that the medical field and all the fields devoted to helping those with depression are there. That there are medications that may or may not help. That somewhere there is someone on a crisis hotline who cares enough to be there for a total stranger. That there are people who will read these posts and that they have gone through similar life problems.
What I find I need is distraction regarding the depression issues. The distraction can be anything ranging from walking in a park and watching nature to exercising in a gym. Within the distraction there is life in the moment and the issues of life and depression go away for that moment.

I have hope that I will get better because I have been down before and got better.
I have hope because I have Jesus in my life and He is the way.

Hi HB--I was never really hopeful when I was depressed. I just existed. Went through life like a zombie. but I did try hard to resolve what made me depressed because the status quo was just too painful. One of the hardest things I have ever done. as for comfort, finding others who were unhappy too made me feel less alone, and trying to help them made me feel better.

What gives me hope day to day is that I know I can continue to get stronger and that deep inside me I know I have the power to get better. Each day is a new opportunity to learn, grow, and improve from the day before, so that I can have the life I want and be the person I want to be.

My therapists told me I did not listen, was incapable of changing, and was too stubborn to die. Not surprisingly, I attributed these observations as the product of frustrated egos that assuaged themselves by blaming the patient.

reading something new to try that will help me change my negative thinking or deal with anxiety, that always makes me feel a little better. or reading my notebook where I keep all the helpful stuff I have read before.

Hope. I'm not so sure I have much of it left sometimes. But the fact I'm still alive another day, after the abuse I have put myself through over the years, is a bloody good sign.
