The days I would just like to stay in bed all day are the days I push myself to get out and do something. It can be something as simple as doing the dishes or a brief walk outside. Once that is done I do feel much better about myself. And I may feel like doing something more. Then more good feelings about myself.

On those days, I force myself to wake up at a decent time, and tell myself that if I really feel tired later in the day, I can take a nap.
Even on my worst days, I eat a healthy diet and exercise almost daily (6 days a week). That way, I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that I treated my body well despite the fact that I was depressed. I also have a morning routine of reading/prayer/meditation, which takes about 30 minutes. I'm not religious by any means, but I am spiritual...and I find that this quiet time is a great start to my day. I try to do at least one "productive" thing during the day, no matter how small. It could be doing the dishes, or walking the dog. And of course, I try to do things I enjoy as well. Going on the computer to visit my usual sites (including this one), listening to music, and reading something I enjoy are a few examples. |
