I quit my antidepressives last sunday and am quite shocked how difficult it is. I've been reducing them for 6 months so i thought i would get off them quite easlíly but it's not easy at all. I get these vision problems which are a common reaction, also headaches, tiredness, irritability... today i got a reply from my former teacher regarding a letter i sent him that i felt my grade was unfair.. that took me into this really dark place where i feel like hurting myself. don't worry i won't do that it's just that my anxiety is really strong and i want it to go away. anyone had similar experiences? how long does the vision stuff last? i want to get well and live a normal life again... as soon as i start to do things i get very tired or get a lot of pain in my chast and back and that frustrated me and make me very sad. i've had this for 2 years now and i just wanna be like i was before. Are you doing all this under the supervision of a doctor, Emma? If this is just something you're doing on your own, I hope you'll go to a doctor right away and get some advice--as you already know, these side effects can be really severe!

If you're having trouble getting off the meds, I don't know if it would be a good idea to go off them in the first place. Are you weaning yourself off them or is a doctor weaning you off them? It's a very dangerous thing to do on your own.

my swedish doctor said i'm doing the right thing; i have been cutting down since september last year. I will be seeing a doctor here soon, too. i really want to get rid of the meds, had them for 1.5 years and they make me so slow in my head. i took a diazepam against anxiety and have the 2 series of Lost to stay in my bed with so hopefully that will help

Some medications are harder to quit than others and the withdrawal is bad enough to go back on them.

Some depression is chronic and medication is needed long term. Since you seem to be getting more easily upset and having thoughts of possible self-harm after lowering the dose, maybe you need to stay on your meds.

Hang in there.. I hope it all works out for you.

I know the feeling about not being on medication... but some ppl need to be (mental unwellness shouldn't be considered much different than any physical problem like high blood pressure... if the medication helps, take it.)

Let us know how you're doing.. and I hope you find a doctor you like getting off antidepressives
