Be there for her with emotional support; help her find a therapist; but always be ready to call 911. Beyond that, not certain anyone can control what another person decides to do...

Take your friend to the emergency room to be assessed. it's a good time to just get her/him help. your friend may not want to, but it's the best place for her/him to be.

If for some reason you can't get her/him to go then stay with her/him until the thoughts pass. Do not leave her/him alone, not even for a second.

does your friend have family nearby? if they're told they may help her get the help she needs.

Try to understand her/him. They are not trying to go away, depression is trying to take them. Yes, stay with this person while you can, keep them safe. If you start to run out of time to sit with your friend take her/him to the hospital or have someone else sit with them. Thank you for understanding or illness.
