Ok so I'm going to see a therapist for the first time in a few days, we are just going right now to make sure what I have is depression, and talk to her about what I can do about it, but I will most likely continue therapy with her afterwards. Anything I should know? If I tell her about my cutting will she tell my mom? And btw thanks everyone for helping me get to this point, without you I don't think I ever would have been able to bring myself to even tell anyone about my depression. I love you guys

I'm so glad to hear you're going in to see someone. I hope you find the therapist helpful and finally get some answers. Being 13, I'm not sure what the therapist's policy will be on letting your mother know about the cutting. I know if my 13 year old daughter was cutting, I would want to know so I could help her get through it when the urges came. I would be honest with the therapist and also talk about your concerns. She can only help you if you let her.

Hi --- I don't believe that the therapist CAN tell your mother (unless it's life-threateniing). I believe that it's PRIVATE between patient & doctor. Your Mom will undoubtedly ASK you what you talked about, but you don't have to tell her everything. In fact you don't have to tell her anything! Just give her a "generic" answer, like "Oh, we talked about school and stuff." LOL

Just don't be afraid to be TOTALLY open and honest with the therapist cause that's the ONLY way she can help you. And PLEASE tell her about the cutting episodes. She can help you with that -- and with everything else too. Take care of yourself, and let us know how you're doing. God bless. Hugs, Lee

Take it a few days at a time. See what your doctor has to say. Ask your doctor about the privacy policies. Be honest with your doctor. Your mother is taking you in, I am guessing she already knows about your depression and wants to help you. This is good. But before your mother can help you you will have to be honest with her too. Like I say take a few days and deside what is best for you. Remember what ever you do depression will be there trying to stop you from getting help. That is just they way depression works. I wish you all the luck in the world, let us know how it goes, remember one step at a time.
