im depressed and misinterpret the most innocuous statements as criticism and judgement. oo intellectual level i know it wasnt negative in anyway. it was a simple and helpful suggestion. emotionally im convinced it was rejection. is this common?

In some of my deepest depressions, anne, someone's look alone would be enough to make me feel judged & rejected. A few words would sound dismissive, regardless of what they said. The attitude was all mine, twisted by the dark mood overwhelming my mind.

If you're stuck in a depression, know that feelings aren't facts. Don't believe that what you seem to be getting as feedback isn't necessarily true. See a therapist or at least your primary care doctor for a more objective opinion. Be sure the "depression" isn't caused by some medical condition, nutritional need, or other easily-corrected reason.

You're right--your emotions & intellect are at odds. It can be worked out. If this is something fairly new with you, it might even turn out to be a quick fix.

When depressed, as I am also, I'm much more sensitive to criticism. I try to be around more positive people but this weekend I just stayed at home with my dog. I feel rejected and judged and don't want to bother others with my pain. I have to believe it will get better for us.
Keep the faith and trust the future!

Depression can make it hard, maybe impossible to think rationally.
Our mind can twist everything into the most hurtful ways.
It is a simple matter of getting through those times back to rational thinking, because nothing but just lasting it out, has ever worked, but i cant be sure, because it hasnt ended yet. I
