I thought my instructor wouldn't go towards the suicide issue of mental health... well he did...... I've been triggered again.... what can I do right now to bring myself back??? I've tried grounding, but that's not working (focusing on where I am, the feel of the desk, the sound of the music playing in my ear, drinking water)

Any other ideas to bring myself back???

I need to study for the class, and with the thoughts I am having, it's getting harder..... (abnormal psychology is the class) and I really don't want to call someone for help (or my T) What else can I do???

Something easily absorbing that gives immediate or near-immediate gratification?
  • Dancing?
  • Cooking?
  • Playing with a dog or cat?
  • Video gaming?
  • Etc.?

Hi Puzzclar- I have had the same issue (more times than I'd care to remember!) Something that usually works for me, is just counting backwards (start at 100 and go to 0)..focusing on something so cognitive helps your brain get out of the "fight or flight" mode. Hope you find something that works for you!

I'll keep those ideas in mind as I study for the test again.... hopefully things will go well today, and I won't get triggered.

Drink hot tea, notice the color red wherever you are, take 5 minutes to eat one raisin, pretend you are studying so you can explain the info to someone who really needs it.
Give it a try, it can't hurt!

Try it can't hurt, The bigger thing is I"m just having issues with studying.... To triggered to do much... I hope to get out of this quickly, so that I can submit my paper today. before it's due.

And the other thing is the suicidal thoughts just keep coming... I'm trying to keep them in their rightful place, but there is a part of me that doesn't want that.... and that's the inside fight I'm having, when trying to study.... grrrr
