I've been looking for a job for the past seven months. I NEED A JOB. But the last places I've worked have been retail and fast food, which have schedules that are all over the place, and are hideous work environments.

I had a very encouraging interview with a bank, but when I called them back, they said my application wasn't selected. I'm so tired of this. I've had interview after interview, and I keep getting my hopes up, just to have them shot down. I can't bear the thought of going back to a place like where I've worked before, but I don't know what else to do.

I feel so utterly useless. My dad is retiring in a few months, and my family needs financial help. I need money because I'm going to school in the fall, and I'm trying to get a car. My family tells me to just keep looking, and I do, but I don't know where to go or what to do. Right now I just want to crawl into a hole and die. I feel worthless without a job, but I feel miserable if it's a job I hate. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Hugs from:

Hi, sorry you are discouraged right now. I likely faxed 50 resumes out before my daughter got her a job. It's tough having a fast food back-ground on getting something better. Keep trying, and Ill bet you find something more as to your likeing.
hugs, bj

You might try a temp agency while you are looking. That way, your resume has you employed (It's easier to get a job when you already have a job.), and you might get some experience that you can convey into a full time job. Either way, you will be earning some money while you are looking.

So don't.

One Perspective: You suffer from depression. Work that feeds your depression may not be the best thing in the long-run, particularly if it erodes your ability to find and develop more fulfilling skills.

Job seeking is difficult for "normal" people and all the harder for us. Therefore make it count; invest those pains in the search for something that is less likely to bring you to an early halt.

This is just one perspective.

sorry the bank job didn't work out. I think Buggs Bunny's idea of a temp agency is a good idea. they always need people and it would be a good stepping stone to get your resume going. good luck, keep your head up!

Bleh, thank you for all the encouragement, guys. I'm sorry for wigging out and slinking off for several days, but I felt so useless. And then, of course, after one of those episodes is over, I think, "What the heck was that???"
That's a good idea, I may try a few more temp agencies...I'd done that before, but I never heard back from them. I'll do it again, though! There's also a restraunt hiring not too far from where I live. I wouldn't mind if I got a kitchen job or something, as long as I didn't have to deal with the public.

Thank you all so much.
