I have been suffering with depression throughout my life, but it seems as if I can never get my parents to take me seriously about it. There is a history of mental health in my family and at times I feel helpless. My grades are slipping and I'm just tired all the time. My mother says there are therapists I can go to for help but she never seems to make me an appointment. I know that they say that when you feel this way as a teenager its just hormones, but how can it be hormones when you've felt this way for as long as you can remember? Sometimes I just feel so alone. I'm afraid that if anyone were to find out that I feel this way they would think I was a freak or act as if I am fragile, I think that's why I've gotten so good at hiding my feelings. If you have any advice for me I'd really appreciate it.

Hello & Welcome, PrettyInPink10!

Do you think you could get in to see a medical doctor for a full check-up? You could discuss your depression symptoms with the doctor while investigating and ruling out any illnesses contributing to depression (for example: hypothyroid, anemia, and certain vitamin deficiencies; WSJ article).

Agreed, you could seek out the doctor yourself.
