My therapist says it is useless to complain or fully display my depression to others that I understand, people might get tired bored confused overwhelmed and a long etcs....

I have told no one other than my best friend and very close family members. I really don't think anyone else cares.

never seen a therapist, so don't get this, but how can folks understand/ support if they don't know what's going on? just my opinion.

My T tells me that I need to be more open with my family and friends about my depression. I guess it's all about balance.

The good thing is that there are so many people around on PC that you don't have to worry about being boring/confusing/overwhelming etc like you do IRL. You can just write about whatever's going on with you.

Well, I have a few thoughts on this. I suppose there is a difference between letting people know that you have depression and talking to them as a support when you are depressed. I don't talk to many about how I feel when I'm in my depression, I have several who I can talk to about that when I am struggling (as well as using this sight and therapy). However, I have found it very freeing to let people in my life know that I deal with depression. I don't necessarily go into a lot of detail with them, but knowing that people know kind of takes away some of the power the depression has over me. Not sure if you relate or this makes sense, but just thought I'd share.

For me it really depends on who I am sharing with. There are friends that understand what depression means - often because they have dealt with it themselves. Then there are other people who think I can just "snap out of it" or that I am weak. I've learned to be selective who I share my depression with.
