would you get anxious by being around maybe just a few people who you gradually got to know. I thought maybe volunteering reading to a child that you might see each week would be fun.
Sounds like you want some social interaction -- just not alot? or none at all from no one.

Perhaps you could advertise to pet sit. Then its not a person but someone you can care for during the day. I need a cheap pet sitter myself!!!!

hmmmmmm. If you wanted a job.. housecleaning would be good because usually the people aren't there and it gives you something to do.

Maybe there are support groups for agoraphobics or people with depression. That way they would be sensitive to your issue and you could commensurate about similar issues sorta like psychcentral but in real life..

just some ideas

I don't have agoraphobia, but GAD. And I'm the same way with crowds. I avoid them at all costs.

The best job I've found is a cleaning job. It allows you to do your own thing where you don't have to be around people at all. And pet sitting is a good one, too.

Now that the weather is warming up, people are gardening. Maybe you could do some weeding and watering. I know those are two things I neglect doing whenever I try my hand at growing something.

Hi skittles,

I understand what you're saying. Sometimes we can't be around people, but we're not good on our own either.

I used to do something fun. I went to house auctions of old furniture and stuff, bought something really cheap and then fixed it up at home. A lot of our stuff came into the house this way. Some people do this and then advertise things on the internet for sale.

Here in the UK these auctions are in the weekdays, when most people are at work. I didn't have to talk to anyone, just put my hand up to bid.

Also there are lots of people making stuff and selling it on the internet; I think that there are more people at home than we imagine, of all ages.

Good luck,

Skittles I relate. We moved here from England just over a year ago. I have young children so I'm a stay at home mum. So I wasn't meeting anybody through work. I hate crowds too so going out and about didn't help much. I managed to find playgroups and so on and they were a lifesaver until I made friends here.
You've been given great suggestions on how to combat your boredom. I just wanted to let you know that I can relate to how you're feeling.

((((gotta like my skittles lonely during the day )))) Be proactive for your agoraphobia! You can overcome it, with help.

There are lots of jobs that are working with animals, or paperwork, or such... I don't know how much training you have or want to get... I do know someone who does medical transcribing at home on her computer and then sends it in. I'm sure there are other jobs similar to that.

Behind the scenes work at the zoo, or similar attraction...where you can go in and out an employee doorway... even night crew cleaning offices.... sigh... maybe something has given you an idea now? TC

I totally understand (((((skittles))))). I go to the library and read a book or two. It's quite and peaceful there during the day. I'm old and they have the large print books and magazines there too. Reading is calming for me. This is helping me with concentration. Just getting out of the house helps too. Maybe just one day a week for an hour will help you too. I care so you take care.
