When I first started taking name brand Deplin (L-methylfolate) 15 mg along with my antidepressant, I felt so much better even after only 2 days. I got my Rx filled with a non-brand name form of L-Methylfolate and I've been depressed ever since. I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with Deplin for depression.

Hello & Welcome, Lucy1114! I do not have any experience with Deplin. You might consider posting your question in the Psychiatric Medications forum as well.

Deplin sounds interesting. If I understand correctly, it is not in itself a psychoactive drug; it's a supplement providing folate, yes?

I tried deplin, and it did nothing for me. It only works if you have a low folate level to begin with.

As above, I tried Deplin and did not notice a difference. Can you not go back on the brand name?

Yes, but it's more expensive and has to be special-ordered by my pharmacy. I doubt my insurance will cover it.

I just read an article about generic deplin. Because it is a food supplement the regulations are not the same for generic equiv as RX. I will see if i can track down the link. Have you gone to Deplins website? They have a mail order program that is at least a third of the cost (at least for me). I take 7.5 and the 15 is the same price. So the pdoc writes for three months of 15 and i get 6 mos for the 3 mos price.

I have been taking L-Methylfolate 10mg made by Metabolic Maintenance and has been working wonders for me. It's not cheap but much more offordable then Deplin though.
I was rejected from a study because of my anxiety disorder, but I managed to get them to tell me what the trial was about.
I've tried Abilify etc. and besides not working gave me nightmares to the point I couldn't sleep.
Good luck, I hope it works out.
Dan

Just to add, I did get an initial boost right away like you and it eventually leveled off.
I am still way better off taking it though.
