I don't know what is going on with me. I have a wonderful life, but I can't get rid of this feeling of depression.

During the school year I have things to do and work towards, but during the summer I'm babysitting my baby brother. I have no car so I wake up, babysit here all day, and go to sleep.

I feel like I'm doing nothing. I constantly feel like I need a project or something. I feel somewhat pointless. I don't get it.

Just felt like venting.

Hmmm. Are you being PAID to watch your baby brother? I hope so cause otherwise, I don't think this would be fair at all. Even tho this is your brother, a person your age should be free to be out and about during the summer -- not stuck in the house, doing nothing!

Can you leave the house after your Mom gets home from work? What time does she get home? Do you have friends that you can do things with? Can you go out at night?

I hope you have things to do in the evening so that your whole day/night isn't shot.

Let us know and maybe we can come up with some compromises. Hugs, Lee

I don't know about anyone else, but I would treasure the time that I have when there is no job, mortgage, bills, children to care for, etc.

Young life can be tough, and at the risk of sounding like an "old guy", I think that you might want to consider just how wonderful you have it. You have an opportunity to influence a young life with your actions. You must be living in a home, so that implies you have a roof over your head...

Be inventive, and remember that you will never get this time back in your life...

Best wishes...take it from me, a person who has wasted more than his fair share of time...don't waste a minute.

I'm being paid, which is nice so I can save for a car. I really don't have anywhere to go unless my boyfriend comes over. None of my friends live in the area and she's usually gone until late.

I know I have it great and don't have any reason to be depressed which is frustrating, because I don't know what to do to make it go away. I'm tired of feeling miserable and I'm trying so hard to make myself happy by doing crafts and making music, but it's just not happening. I need the structure, people, and freedom that comes with being off at school.

The strange thing about depression is that you don't need a reason for it to be part of your life. Sometimes it is just there. School won't be there to provide structure for you all of your life, so try to use this as an opportunity to create your own structure.

Good luck; keep coming back to these forums. Depression and misery are sad realities of life at times...but it is treatable.

Best wishes to you.

Im a mother of 3 girls, im pretty much by myself with them. So i can understand. Im not sure how old your brother is, but have u thought of doing anything, like walking to a park, or if there's any ice cream stores around. Do u have public transportation, maybe a library. You should look up free event in your area. I think the biggest issue is trying to find something to do to keep your sanity and his. I know kids have alot of energy, so maybe something to help him burn so of that off. What about building a fort, or making a mini waterpark in the yard. I hope things work out for ya, best of luck

There isn't public transportation around here. I live in South Carolina in an area where things are really spread out. I've been trying to find more projects and things to do and I have finally made my first therapy appointment. So hopefully that is a step in the right direction.
