what do you do when your spouse resists treatment, won't take medication and absolutely insists that there is nothing wrong with her and that everything is somebody else's fault?
i also suffer from depression, and so i do understand it's not easy, but hell i'm really getting close to the end of my tether

I was in that place where your spouse is at a couple years ago. I don't have any advice, I am so sorry. It has to be hard for you, though. I know, for me looking back, I had to realize that there was something wrong...kinda 'snapped out of it?' I don't know. I am weird though. This probably didn't help whatsoever. I am sorry you are going through not only your depression, but dealing with trying to be supportive to her as well.

........... I struggle with depression. I recognized that my husband was depressed for a spell about two years ago. Doctor agreed and prescribed an SSRI. He took a few and then refused.
Over time he got better. When he finally accepted that he was depressed, that it was a legitimate illness, I brought up the subject of the need for medication for this illness more than once. Many times. He agreed with me and said if ever again he would take meds. He really only processed it when he was feeling better. Now, we will see if his mind changes IF it ever happens again and his mind is in that state! |

I am the spouse with the depression, my wife doesn't have a MI. I have been resistant to treatment (meds, therapy) a bit in the past and know it was always hard on my wife. Thankfully I came around to it and got the help I needed to stablize myself. Sadly, I don't think there is much we can do when the other person doesn't want help. People have to come to it on their own in my experience. It's a tough spot to be in, and I'm sorry you are there right now. Thanks for posting!
