I've been on this stuff for three days and I feel like a new person. Rather, I feel like an old person.. I feel like myself. It's weird. I was resistant to medication because I can't drink, even socially, and the sexual side effects really suck... but I feel better already.. anyone have any experience with this? I hope it isn't a placebo effect.. I want to know that there is something out there that will help me manage this crushing depression and it's not just my imagination..

I had the same experience you describe. It was almost instant relief from the crushing feeling and negative self-thoughts, but I soon learned that even with meds you can still have bad days. It's the best med I've ever been on personally. Unfortunately, I am currently weaning off of the Celexa because it appears to be causing an allergic reaction in me. Not really sure what they'll put me on next and I'm skeptical, but move on I must.

Good luck to you, hope it continues to improve your situation.
Thanks for this!

I was on lexapro, often described as celexa's cousin; it worked well for me for about a year. As for whether or not it's placebo, it might be after only three days. I do hope that you can keep on the recovery side of things with this depression. Right now, cymbalta is treating me well.

..............i am not sure if it is early enough for the medication to be working, but I am sure that there is a feeling of relief that you are doing something to get rid of the horribleness of depression.

Celexa seems to be the miracle drug for alot of folks. For me personally it didn't do anything at all after 2 months. Instead I started Paxil and it did wonders for me. Glad you're feeling better!

Thanks everyone for the input.. this is day five, I think? I feel extremely tired (due to lack of sleep) but not hypomanic like I did the other day, but my mood is still pretty good. In a little bit of a fog though. Celexa seems to take the edge off the anxiety.. but man, it makes me yawn so much!!

I went on Lexapro first, then
went on Paxil, which made me impotent.
Also, they made me very tired all day.

I am now on Bupropion-SR 150mg once a day.
It took away the impotency, as my doctor said it worked in a differant way in my head.
It took about 6 weeks for this med start working, but I feel a differance, and it seems to be helping me.

Celexa was the first anti-depression medication I was put on. I started with 20mg and eventually moved up to 40mg. First of all, anti-depressants do take some time to kick it, I would say at least 2-3 weeks...so what your feeling could be a placebo effect. I felt this way too when I first on them.

I am a 23 year old, sexually active female. I had been with my boyfriend for nearly 2 years and it killed my sex drive. Like 100% even for masturbating...I'm now on 20mg prozac and its better but still not the same...
Thanks for this!

That's what I hated about it too, the sex drive thing (this is the second time I am trying Celexa). However, in my case it isn't really a concern.. pathetically I'm pretty much always single. In any case, today I just feel blah, but I don't feel too bad.. I feel really tired though and don't have much of an appetite, which is weird because I've heard that it causes weight gain. I do feel like I'm in kind of a fog and I'm lightheaded. I think this day 6 or 7..

Now I feel totally blah, empty of emotions except sadness, tired and foggy all the time (although it may be due to Xanax and lack of sleep) and just out of it. I also have no appetite.. I get hungry but as soon as I start eating I feel sick. This has actually been going on for a few months, since I stopped birth control pills, so I don't know, maybe that has something to do with it.. but I've never heard of anyone stopping birth control pills and completely losing the desire to eat. And I've heard Celexa increases your appetite.

Of course my imagination starts running away from me and I start to imagine I have cancer or something.. I'm pretty worried because I've never had such a small appetite before, and my memory and cognition lately are horrible. Like, I have a thought and I forget it as I'm writing it down. It's really bad.
