Do any of you experience physical symptoms when you are depressed? The reason I ask is because I have been getting a lot of headaches recently and I have never been one to suffer from headaches unless I have the flu or something like that. I don't seem to be sick in that sense so I am assuming it is because I'm depressed. I am a bit of a hypochondriac though so I am kind of worried I have something else wrong with me. I also just feel generally fatigued all the time and it makes getting through the day a real struggle.

Hi retro_chick
I don't generally get many headaches, although have had one every morning for the past 2 week
I also have tiredness, anxiety in stomach, achy legs - think they are all associated with feeling depressed.
Warm wishes

Hmmm I would feel tired even after hours of sleep, and felt like a knot in my stomach that I didn't want to eat even when my stomach growled like crazy, I lost around 20lbs in 2-3 mths, even smelling of the food made me sick. Headaches only happened when I only got 3hrs of sleep a day. All these happened when my depression was worse. Hope you feel better soon! HUGS

I experience upset stomach, achy feeling all over, and yes the headaches, I have migraines often but the headaches from depression are very different. With depression, I feel very tired all the time, no matter how much or how little I sleep.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one. It is so hard when I have to work or something though; all I can think about is how much I want to lie down in bed. What do you guys do to get through the work day?

Yes, I get loads of headaches, my muscles tense and get achy, I get spasms because my muscles are tense, sometimes I forget to eat -- and then I eat too much. Those are just a few. Hope that helps

I get headaches, but I also get really bad indigestion. You would be surprised that that can be caused from stress. It is pretty bad, and sometimes it is so bad that I feel like I am having a heart attack or something. I also get tired, and get dizzy effects from the anxiety, etc etc...

Hi,

The symptoms I attribute to depression are fatigue, aches all over my body, and I also feel like I have a perpetual cold (runny nose, feverish, headaches). I also experience a lot of anxiety and stress, which manifests as weight gain.

I have a hard time going to work. I often find though, that when I do not think of how much the pain is and just focus on what I need to do at work, then it is a little easier. But then when I come home, fall apart again.

I get headaches too and tiredness and aches. I do think, though, that headaches can be a symptom of other problems and you need to go to the doctor and get it checked out before you decide that it's just depression. Maybe you need glasses, or an adjustment by a chiropracter. If headaches are not a common thing for you then you really need to get it looked at. Good Luck and let us know what's going on.

I experience frequent mild headaches and mild stomach distress, though I cannot tell if these are due to the depression itself or to my meds.

I agree. If one has a depression diagnosis, it's tempting -- even to doctors -- to view all symptoms through that diagnosis, but the symptoms could be unrelated.

All the best to you, Retro_chic!

I get a really bad stomach, aches and pains in my legs and itchy dry skin. Also my gums have started to bleed quite badly. No headaches though.

Thanks everyone for the support! I am pretty sure that there is nothing physically wrong with me - I have had a full blood test pretty recently and everything was normal. I have noticed that the headaches are closely linked to abnormal sleep (too much or not enough) which in turn is closely related to depression. Fun times all round! I guess my biggest issue with it is the inconvenience; I just want to get stuff done and be motivated again!
