So I'm been going to therapy for a little while. One thing that I really need to find in motivation. I have no desire to do anything in life. Even though I know not doing my college assignments will not only put me behind it will also cause me to fail but I don't care. I really don't care about much in life and I don't know how to change that. I tired to talk to my therapist about it but she had no good advise on how to pull myself out of this huge slum of depression. Does anyone have thoughts?

Hello, KittyBug!

These are just thoughts, not necessarily advice. I know of no way to directly conjure motivation. Often (not always), if you treat the depression (meds, therapy, self-help, sleep, exercise, diet, self-soothing, etc.), motivation sooner or later returns on its own. Depression can be a severe impediment to education. Depending on the nature of an individual's unique experience of depression, it may be more valuable -- not to mention cost-effective -- to temporarily cease academic efforts while dealing with the worst of the depressive episode. Nevertheless, many do manage both depression and academe, albeit at some personal cost. You might want to look at the PC School & Study Issues Forum.

Motivation is a pain in the midst of depression. The only thing that works for me is to get a friend to drag me to do something I normally enjoy.
The idea is to act motivated even if you're not. The big thing to do is be kind to yourself. It doesn't always work but its worth a shot. |
