I've been thinking a lot lately and and remember how I used to draw all of the time and write and recently have wanted to get back into doing that. I have an idea for a story that I'm excited about but every time I get started I just start beating myself up and ultimately end up deleting everything I'm working on. I just don't feel motivated to get anything done. Anyone else go through this and know of a way to get past this?

I relate to this lots. Before my first major depressive episode I was a complete A type. It's okay with me that I'm no longer an A type (to be honest, I think I was a little too intense most of the time) but it is hard that now I don't even have the motivation to do some things that I need to do. It's like depression flipped a switch, and that switch has turned me into a passive person who can at times only do the absolute essentials, and at times even the essentials are painfully hard to do. I'm not sure it will ever change. I have some creative and professional ideas I'd like to follow through on but it's a drain.
Good luck on your story. Maybe see if you can just not delete it? You should be proud that your putting time into it. To me, that's very positive. |
