Tying to figure out what type of treatment I want to go for. Outpatient is a question mark as I don't want to be grouped with a bunch of people who are addicts in recovery etc... no offense to any people addicted to drugs or alcohol but that's not my focus and I don't want to waste my time.

Anyone with experience of being treated for depression as an outpatient?

I don't know that you would necessarily be grouped with recovering addicts. Except for detox, I think a lot of those go to halfway houses or specialized institutions. IF you are thinking of inpatient treatment, make an appointment with a psychiatrist or psychologist and see what kind of program they have.

Is there a reason why you are considering inpatient treatment? If you aren't suicidal or self harming etc., you would probably do well in outpatient therapy. Generally, outpatient appointments are more frequent in the beginning, especially if there is an acute crisis. As things get better, the frequency is often reduced. Also, consider your health insurance and what it will cover for you. Both inpatient and outpatient treatment can be expensive.

Thanks Sam for your thoughts. After rereading my initial post I can see how my thoughts are a little scattered compared to what I wanted to say

Today: I'm being treated for depression. I've been on meds for 11 days.

Two weeks ago: I went to a schedule therapy session and told my long time T that I didn't want to live any more and I had a plan. I told her what my plan was. She asked me if I wanted to go to a hospital and I told her no. She said I need to promise her I would call her before I did anything and to call my pdoc for a medication/depression consult. My pdoc said she would trust me and my communication with my therapist So now I'm on medication. It has been a rollar coaster the last 11 days but I think I'm feeling better (I don't have thoughts but I do still feel a sense of sadness/hopelessness). My therapist recommended I consider outpatient. I went to a local psych hospital and most of clients seem to be there for addictions etc.. (could all be in my head of course).

Outpatient: So far I've called three hospitals and I've been to one hospital for 'orientation'. That's where I didn't get good vibes from the others in orientation. Outpatient is intensive and alternative to inpatient. The one program I looked at so far is 5x a week from 8:30 - 1:30 (the one I visited).

For insurance I would be paying 2,400 out of pocket for my deductible and then it's 100% covered.

The other option:
To see my therapist 3x or more per week. Something I'm going to talk to my therapist about.
