This morning my son woke up not feeling well and he had a heavy depression hanging over him. Then it seemed to start hanging over me too. It didn't get better for over two hours for me--and that was only because I left the house. He really needs help. He now is willing to admit that he may have depression, but he really doesn't want to do anything about it. I'm getting scared for him.

How old is your kid ? Being depressed is aweful but for teens I think is worse because it can show in many different ways sadness anger anxiety .
I think the most important think is to let him know from the bottom of your heart how much you love him and care about him my son has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder he is only 20 but yet I can't force him to get help:,( its so hard be strong when he is ready he will get help.

^ It is very difficult for a young adult too. How I have experienced depression has morphed since I was a teen. I used to get it as anger, anxiety, wanting to avoid people, and now I get a lot of cognitive symptoms, hopelessness and lack of motivation. It is good to know how you experience your illness so you can best work around it long term.

I'm 22, living at home and dealing with depression (and other incarnations of mental illness), and I often feel disconnectioned, isolated and like a failure. This is the time when we are supposed to be staking out in the world on our own, but depression can greatly dampen hopes. No matter what, with support and focus, he (and you) can get through it into better times. That's what I'm hoping anyway.
