I think depression is quite like cancer in a way that it can sneak up on you and before you know it, that little negative thought in your head can end up killing you. We dont have a sympathetic society to mental health issues, so it can be very distressing and distructive. Depression kills. Just like cancer. Reach out ask for help. Its not always aparrent to your loved ones / friends how you are feeling. We ask "How are you" and the reply maybe "I'm fine. What I'm trying to say is that help is out there, and the hardest step is the first. I NEED HELP. Please dont take me up as trivialising cancer but dont we trivialise depression. What are your thoughts.

I agree. Society seems to think depression is a feeling that you get one or a few days or being a bit sad or something. Not the mind killing life killing thing that can go on year after year.

I think people struggle to understand depression because they think everyone gets sad sometimes so they don't get that it's a medical condition - like cancer.
It is VERY hard to reach out and tell people you need them, but worth doing. |
