I'm 25 and was recently diagnosed with mild to moderate depression, which I still don't really know what that means. I've been feeling "sad" for 4 months now, and back in January it started to affect my daily life. I feel very scared because I have never experienced something like this before. I just started taking Zoloft, not even a week into it, and my first counseling appointment isn't until the 29th of this month. I guess I'm just looking for any advice, words of encouragement, or some hope that this WILL go away.

Hello & Welcome, RSha. I've suffered with depression for a long time, but when I read your post about starting both meds and therapy after 'only' four months of mild-to-moderate depression, I'm encouraged. I would expect your chances of full recovery are high -- much higher than many who do not seek or receive treatment for months and even years after symptoms appear.

RSha, the type of depression (when it isn't "reactive" ordinary sadness) is usually called clinical depression and just means a chemical imbalance that interferes with normal feelings, motivation, energy. I had a good reaction to Zoloft but it took me a month. My main mistake was not getting counseling to go with the meds. Talk to your T (therapist) and you will come up with a plan to get out of this mood. If by chance you and your T do not "click" then you gotta bite the bullet and get another T, do not wait. TALK is a must, so is getting some exercise. Don't be scared, you'll be okay it just takes some patience.
