That and it makes my hair look worse and I've been told that my hair looks much better if I don't wash it more than once or twice a week.

I don't understand why our culture is so obsessed with constantly bathing. It's actually really unhealthy to bathe everyday if you have dry skin/hair. And it wastes tons of water that we're almost completely out of (well, where I live anyway).

My point: You're not "disgusting" if you don't want to take a shower every single day.

i actually can't stand any type of clenliness or organisation, so i can totally relate to that 1. yep... i suppose another reason why i hate showers!

If your shower has a bathtub, I use to sit down and enjoy the water beating on me so much I'd "forget" to get out and would be late to work.

I took a shower this morning and realized just how much I hate them. I hate the water hot, but I can't even get in if it is cold. I HATE looking and touching my body. I hate wasting time taking a shower knowing that I am only going to get dirty and smell again. I hate getting out of the shower to be blasted by the cold air when I open the shower door. I hate having the clean the shower glass EVERY shower. I hate having to dry off, pick out clothes and put them on. And I abolutely hate having to do my hair. Only to feel unbearably ugly after. I am supposed to chalk today up as a win because I took one, but really, was it worth it???

I don't like the effort of it and being wet between turning off the shower and drying off. I get agitated.

I hate all of it, too, but I do it anyway because I like the effects of it. My hair is clean and my face isn't broken out. Same with exercise. Most times I don't want to exercise, but I do it anyway because I like the effects of it - more energy, sleep better at night, no migraines, weight control.

Keep on truckin'!

It feels so good to see so many hate taking showers. I was so ashamed of this myself. I find it difficult because of the energy it takes and the fact I always seem to just cry the entire time I take one, while I'm depressed. Nice to know I'm not alone in this as well. Kate King thanks for having the courage to post this!

Thanks from me too. I have to wait about an hour after I get up in the morning to get the strength emotionally and pshysically. I try to use a lotion to wash with, and I love Jean Nate which gives me the gumption to at least take a shower so i smell good afterwards. i think of how good i'll feel before i get in the shower, and how much it helps feeling afterward. I also change soaps. I often wonder how other people feel when they first wake up-i have the hardest part of my day in the morning waking up. Do others feel awful when they first wake up too? Just wondering and thanks.

Wow I can't believe so many people hate showers too! It's just too much effort sometimes. Washing my hair is the worst part of it. I love how I feel after showering though.

Avlady: Yes the hardest part of my day is waking up. Just opening my eyes when I am down is painful. The mornings are bad and so are the evenings, before I go to bed.

Thank you for posting this!

I love this thread!

I took a shower today. Forced myself. I didn't clean the shower door glass as I am expected to, I wish there wasn't a glass door; it's dumb to have to combat mineral deposits from the water. I will end up cleaning it at some point, as this is my boyfriends obsession, and I respect that. (he is good about leaving the toilet seat down for me)

I have a small space heater in the bathroom, so I am not blasted by cold air. It is a drag to have wet hair chill me down, but blow dryers damage my hair, so I towel dry and then put a cap on to keep the chill out.

My grandmother hated bathing, getting dressed, changing clothes, having to get ready to go into town. She used to say, " I wish we could just be like a dog and get up in the morning and shake, and we'd be ready to go."

Yeah, animals are not concerned about B.O. and outfits and greasy hair, all of that. I get that.
Thanks for this!

I love the smell of Jean Nate! I don't wear it myself, but the scent brings back good memories from my childhood. I think I will pick some up next time I am out so as to have something to "pick me up" in the dreaded process of morning bathing/etc. Mornings are tough for me. I always take 2 hrs. to really fully become alert. Depression makes me want to stay in bed.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I was so afraid to post it and was feeling so bad about myself that I just had to get it out of me. As much as I don't want others to go through what I go through, I was encouraged to not be alone in this...thank you for the courage to respond to the thread. ((hugs all around))

I'll tell you all what else--- the famous shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" has kept me out of the shower many a time. I have had total panic attacks when I was younger around this. Still sometimes I get afraid that something bad will happen when I am in the shower. Being "Naked" in a subconcious way. How about the rest of you? Have you ever had a panic/anxiety attack around bathing? (i hope this is not a trigger for anyone)

Today is day 4 w/o bathing for me. Just seeing others out there like me has given me the motivation to bathe. I'm gonna run a hot bath and try to soak away my despair. Thanks so much for this, I really needed it. Hugs to all my new 'stinky' friends. I am not alone.

You know what, I make sure to lock the bathroom door because of that movie!! Lol I've never told anyone that.

But no, I've never had a panic attack due to this scene. I'm sorry to hear that. Do you listen to music when you shower? That helps me so I don't think about what I'm doing.
Thanks for this!

Hello there, I know that showers dont bother me too much but I hate answering the phone when I'm very depressed. A shower can takes energy and when you have none sometimes its the biggest task of the day, but when you have showered, think how good it feels! Best Wishes.

When I first read the title of the post, I chuckled...'cos it was unexpected, I guess. But then...well, I hate showers, too, when I'm depressed. I don't like leaving the warm bed (and often, one of my kitties snuggled up with me). I don't like getting wet, being cold after the shower, trying to do something with my hair...all of it, ugh!

But I have to admit...if I can get myself to take one and get dressed, well, I usually do feel a bit better for a while.
Thanks for this!

Me too! I won't say what my longest time without a shower/bath is because it's a lot longer than anyone else has said and I'm ashamed But I hate how much effort it requires, effort that I really don't have most of the time. I also hate getting naked cos I feel so vulnerable and I'm paranoid about being watched or someone breaking in while I'm in the shower. I also hate that, when I do go to all that effort and take a shower, minimal exertion later and I'm dirty again and need ANOTHER one!!! Grrr!

I too have trouble with showers. I go sometimes 3-4 days without a shower. I much prefer to take a bath. A nice warm bubble bath.

I think its been 3 days without a shower...I have gone longer without one...Its just been really difficult to get up the motivation to shower or do anything that revolves around bathing. Its just been rough...and hard to manage and no one really understands not even my mental health workers they think its just me being lazy which it isn't.
