Hello everyone, I'm new here. I tried to search for this topic but I couldn’t find it within the 8 pages of my search.

I have been on short term disability and am in the process of being approved for long term disability.

My insurance company is sending me to their appointed psychiatrist for assessment. I know this is standard procedure but when I read some ratings for this doctor, they were all the same. The doctor is pro-insurance and made the individuals feel worse off than when they came in.

[I googled him and found out there] were 11 bad reviews.

Now I am petrified and have severe anxiety. I have nothing to hide, but I don't want this doctor to mess up what I'm saying or for me to come out being more depressed than I already am.

I am thinking of just quitting my job. I can't take the stress of what the insurance company is putting me through.

I went to see several lawyers and I do not wish to sue.

Can anyone tell me if they have been to see an appointed psychiatrist?

Thank you,
abuela
Hugs from:

This happened to me. I never thought about checking him out on the internet. The appointment was very stressful. The interview took all morning and the afternoon was taken up in psychological tests. The stress of the process was bad and I believe I ended up in the hospital for a few days afterwards. The final report from him was that I could work if I worked on my own without supervision and didn't have to interact with people... They were going to cut off my disability. My pdoc and tdoc both wrote and said that I could not work and they reversed their decision. This was about 2005 I think and I am still on disability. They do an evaluation every two years - just a paper report from me and pdoc. The last time was July 2011...how do I know that? I ended up being hospitalized. I don't deal with the evaluations very well. Just today I realized that the two years would be up this July and immediately became upset.

However, I could not live the way I do without the income from my disability insurance. If it stopped and I only had SSDI to live on I wouldn't be able to afford my meds. Even though it is stressful and distasteful, do the eval. You have no idea how much the money helps!

Hi Anne - I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I can imagine how stressful it was to end up in the hospital "after" having to go through what you did. Yes, disability payments sure help and I hear the insurance companies just keep rejecting claims.

I hope you will find the July appointment less stressful. Sending positive thoughts your way.
