I've had Major Depressive Disorder for around 2 years. I've tried a number of SSRI's (), SNRI's, DRI's with no success. Has anyone tried the TCA's with any luck? I'm at a loss here. I can't believe how horrible these so-called AD's are. Most of them feel simply too weak to help me. And yes I'm going to therapy (about as long as I've been taking meds). This feels more physiological than mental though, especially the anhedonia...I feel like I have the worst case possible...it's horrible.

As far as TCA's, has anyone been on Protriptyline (Vivactil)? I think that's the one I'd like to try first and would like to hear someone's experience of it.

The only TCA I ever tried was Elavil (amitriptyline). That was years ago and I don't remember anything special about it. For me it was no more effective than anything else, and my trial on it did not last long.

No psychiatrist since then has suggested a TCA. Some (many?) of the TCAs are associated with strong side effects and require fairly significant dietary precautions. Learn all you can about Protriptyline (Vivactil) before diving in.
