hey,

As i wrote many times before, my worst symptom of depression is the fatigue and that I get easily exhausted, even when doing smaller activities, or work, which is not supposed to be exhausting.

I'm in therapy, so there we kind of know that all of my problems are psychological, and we have to find the root of the problem, for it to be solved. That's pretty obvious, but I felt that sometimes my exhaustion wasn't in sync with the stress I'm going through. with the daily stresses you know.

I read somewhere, that depression causes bad sleep quality, but I never thought that being the root of my physical well-being, because I nearly always get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, which I thought to be great. But now I read that the REM phases are much longer in those who suffer with depression, and that eventually we are not sleeping that deep at all, even if I think so.

So I think that might be the key to my exhaustion.
What do you guys think?

So what I'm thinking about, to go for benzos for night sleep. Until I get the psychological cause sorted out. And if my exhaustion evaporates then really, clearly bad sleep quality was the cause of it.

i don't wanna get hooked on xanax, but If it helps me to function better, and do more stuff, then on the long run, it will help. Because I have lots of stuff to do, and if I'm less exhausted I can go out, meet friends, and go out jogging more often, which are key factors in overcoming depression.

I think I'm gonna try this. By the way I'm on meds, I'm on paroxetine (rexetin) and it's supposed to help with sleep, and it sort of does, in a way, that I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore, but still my sleep doesn't feel refreshing and deep at all.

What do you guys think?
what else should I try for deeper sleep?

thanks!

One thought is to consider having a sleep study done. It will give you the information you need about sleep quality.

I've taken a benzo and bedtime for 13 years, do not abuse it, and I sleep better because of it.
Thanks for this!

You might consider trying melatonin or trazodone before you go to benzos for sleep. Melatonin knocks me too far out and gives me a hangover, but trazodone has been a godsend for me. It's an antidepressant that doesn't have much effect on depression (although it seems to potentiate some of the other anti-d's), but it has sleepiness as a side effect. It definitely improves the quality of my sleep.
Thanks for this!

Thank u guys very much! I am definitely gonna ask my psychiatrist and my therapist, but i am kinda easily medicated, even 0,125 mg of xan gave me much better sleep. So until I go up to higher doses that would take time, so im not really in danger of getting addicted to it. Because I think in 1-2 months I will be far ahead in the psychological problems, so eventually that will help my sleep too. Thanks! I feel relieved.

just woke up after the first night of sleeping with 0,25 mg xanax. It was a very good sleep. and for me right now that's the most important. I hope I will be able to achieve this without medication though.
but it was nice to have a great sleep finally.
