Hello and thank you for being willing to at least read what is going on with me..... I am on meds, seeing a therapist, talk to a crisis counselor often, have a psychiatrist, and often chat on the chat thing here..... But I am still struggling. The things about me that I am depressed about are facts and I feel powerless like I can't change them.... What do I do to dig my way out of depression?? How do I win this war?? Can someone please give me some useful advice to pull me out of this dark place. People say nice things and I am temporarily happy but the negative self talk in my head that I can't seem to change always wins out. I am completely distraught.... Maybe even any self help books that helped you that you'd recommend? I am willing to try anything!!!!

Hello wantanewme,

Some things that help me when i'm in a dark place is distractions at first. Try to find a hobby you like, whether it be knitting, painting, poetry, drawing, playing with clay, sewing. That usually alleviates the darkness. Or just talk to someone about random things (weather, their pets, your pets, work, school, etc.) After that try and set short term and long term goals. In my personal example i try to work on my painting everyday and make it the best i can, as my short term goal and for a long term i plan to do things in the summer, take a hike, go for a picnic, things like that.

Also if you're looking for a little self help thing, i found a course you can download free on apple products. the app is called "itunes U" . once you download that you can search for and download a course called "Understanding happiness". it helped me understand my depression much better and gave me ways to handle it.

Don't give up. I really hope this helps, and if you need anyone to ever talk to, i'm always here,
missminnie
Thanks for this!

Hi wantanewme,

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for your post. I don't have any suggestions at this point but I admire that you're trying to move thru your depression. I've been depressed for around a year and haven't found a way out yet, or anything that's really working for me. Take care and keep posting.

Gracez

If you have never been tested to determine if you may be missing the enzymes in the stomach that metabolize Vitamin B9 (folate) or folic acid into folate which can cross
the blood-brain barrier and help with serotonin manufacture and neurotransmitters,
please ask your psychiatrist to permit you to start taking a product call Deplin if he
thinks it might help.

For years I've fought depression and was never content with medications until I
learned about Deplin and requested a prescription for it from my psychiatrist. It was
prescribed without having genetic testing done because my psychiatrist felt that if it
helped, we'd know soon enough and there'd be no need for genetic testing.

I'm taking 15 mg per day. It's a food med and it provides a form of folate that does cross the blood-brain barrier and serves to build serotonin neurotransmitters and increase serotonin in the brain ---that's the "feel good" neurotransmitter. I wouldn't be without it for my well-being.

If you want some information for reading, I'd suggest the following things that I've read
and refer to from time to time for good feeling tone (there are literally millions of
works out there that are directed at meditation for mood improvement):

"Forgiving and Moving On"
"Keep It Simple"
"Around the Year With Emmet Fox"
"The One Year Mini for Women" (Daily Inspiration)
"The One Year Book of Quiet Times with God" (365 devotional readings)

Meditation is one of the strongest ways to help with relief from depression.

Some of us are very sensitive to images we see. I have to be extremely careful about
things that appear on television because I seem to remember things so clearly sometimes that are not good for our psyche. I suspect that some of them might bother you, too, if you're sensitive as I think you might be.

Hope this helps a little.
Thanks for this!

You're exactly right. Many people do care for you, and I hope you'll begin to realize now
that everyone has qualities that make one valuable to someone.

Never underestimate the fact that we're all alike more than we are different, regardless of who we are. It's the human condition. And never think that there is no one who loves you, because you are loved unconditionally by Forces in the universe that we know very little about. That's where our really solid heart lives at ease best.

Emmet Foxe touches that more clearly than anyone whose work I have read lately
does.

Enjoy your meditation--that's the key for many for relief from depression (along with
the proper meds).
Thanks for this!
