I just wanted some peace and quiet, so I went into the bedroom because my mom and wife were being loud and annoying and it was just too much chaos. Then my wife comes into the bedroom and asks me what is wrong, so I tell her it was too loud, and I just wanted quiet... a few minutes later, she starts talking really loudly on the phone with her family... what was ambiguous about how I said I was looking for quiet?! So I got frustrated and went outside to sit on the patio. She comes out after her call and gets all pissy that I left... ugh! I just need some space and quiet. Why is that such a difficult concept?

I can totally relate. As an introvert there are times when I just need some peace and quiet by myself, but a lot of people just don't seem to understand that.

I've tried, "Just leave me the f alone." but it didn't go over so well.

Earplugs...I buy them in bulk. They're lifesavers. Just pop em in and voila..pristine silence

we talked a bit later on and both apologized for being pissy. She said she did not realize she was talking so loud, and she didn't think I could hear her with my headphones on (but she penetrated even that)... she is definitely more extroverted than I am. She wants to be around people all the time, and I don't. I hate that we fight about it.
Depression is kicking both our butts, and we just end up lashing out at each other... Good thing we started couple's therapy this past week... we really need it to help communicate better.

Mine do not give pristine silence. What kind do you buy? I'm always interested in upgrading.

Mine: Howard Leight | MAX Earplugs

Look at specifications tab: NRR 33.

I'm with you, OP. Some people don't understand need for quiet. Good you're in couples therapy.
