I can't stand being alone all the time anymore. I've been thinking about trying some meetup groups again. In the past I've had generally positive experiences with stuff like movie watching groups, board gaming groups, and happy hour groups. I just don't feel like I can put on a happy face for something like that though. I've been thinking about going to a local meetup depression support group. Has anyone been to something like that? If so, was it a positive or negative experience? I'd really appreciate any feedback if you have any.

I have recently found a local depression/bi-polar support group. I myself suffer from depression. My daughter suffers from bi-polar disorder. For me, this group is amazing. It is not just for people suffering from these disorders, but for family and friends.

The group meets once a week and last about two hours. Initially, everyone meets in a large group where news and information is passed along. Once a month the group has a quest speaker. The speaker can be a medical professional (doctor, nurse, pharmacist) or a group member. Following large group, everyone breaks up into small groups. I find is very beneficial. It is the best therapy! I like that I am able to open up and share my current issues/struggles and receive the perspectives other members and family/friends contribute.

The group meets every week without fail, even if the meeting date falls on a major holiday. It also has a "library" of resources. Some of the senior members of the group make themselves available to others in need, much like an AA sponsor might.

I encourage you to attend at least once if for no other reason that it will get you out and around people. Some people do have friendships outside the group.

Best Luck to you.
Thanks for this!

Thank you for the info! Yeah the group I found is a DBSA group that meets at a hospital not far from me. It looks like a very similar type of group as to what you described.

It's worth trying! I went to a depression support group for students last fall and that was a positive surprise for me.

All the best!
