During the depression many people lose interest in pleasures, and including to food. But the others all exactly the opposite is happening, and then we eat without appetite, not feeling the taste of food, but eat all to the last crumb. Then usually occur remorse, but, strangely enough, internal stress, anxiety, boredom, loneliness, which caused such a big meal, disappear. At least for a while. Food cravings during the dark periods is not difficult to understand. Food heals our adult sorrow, just as, long ago, mother's milk treated the infant sorrow. During the depression often draws on fatty and sweet foods - coffee with cream, cakes, muffins, but because these products have a lot of fat and sugar, then in a couple of hours appetite wakes up with the same force. One of the components of a comprehensive attack on the depression may be diet, designed to replenish the body with the substances that are intensely "eaten" by the hormones of stress. In my opinion diet is very useful for depression, and personally helped me.
Vitamin A - green leafy vegetables, carrots, apricots, pumpkin. Vitamin C - all vegetable and fruits, especially citrus, black currant, kiwi, broccoli, cabbage, wild rose. B vitamins - all the cereals, yogurt, liver, pumpkin, avocado, bread with bran, lean meat and fish, nuts, and brewers yeast. Group b vitamins increase the content of fatty acids class omega-3. It is believed that for this reason Mediterranean peoples suffer less depression - it is in their food, there are a lot of fish. Vitamin B6, which is necessary for the synthesis of serotonin, in grains of cereals and shellfish. Vitamin-E - oil. Magnesium - green vegetables and herbs, grapefruits, figs, carrots, tomatoes, nuts, buckwheat, oatmeal, peas. Calcium is milk and dairy products. Zinc - Turkey, seafood, eggs, yogurt, cheese, nuts, asparagus, oysters. Choline - egg yolk, liver, beef, germinated grain wheat. Glucose - bran cereal, sweet fruit, honey. Try to incorporate these foods into your diet and don't forget that you need to eat with pleasure, it is always uplifting. I hope that my constant someone will help. Be healthy!

Latest research on grains which contain gluten indicates that they may be harmful to the
human. That would include wheat, barley, and rye;* the other grains usually are considered not to contain gluten--oats, buckwheat, etc. Wheat, barley, and rye all contain exorphins which act on the opiate centers of the brain and can be harmful for those sensitive to grains. In addition, they are addictive and can cause mood swings and weight increase more so than many other products, including sugar. (These gluten-containing grains can increase blood glucose levels higher than sugar does.) Milk also contains exorphins which act on the opiate receptors of the brain; be careful about that, too. _____________________________________________ *See "Wheat Belly" by Dr. David Williams, a book that is a recent New York best seller; it's a report on the dangers of gluten-containing grains and the hazards they present. A nice thread and helpful; thanks for this. |
