hey everyone, my names crystal and im 22.. and have been diagnosed by a 'professional' at a psych ward here about 2-3 months ago and it has snuck back up on me.. im currently not on any medications or seeing anyone.. im not doing either because

a) im never a fan of any medications really

b)and i dont talk to someone currently i feel because im quite an intervert and talk to very few people...

i was wondering if anyone had any ways to help cope with depression.. ways to get it better?

if it helps with the 9000 questions in your mind... the only real reason i can think of for me having depression is that i grew up with my mom and 2 sisters, my mom was a single parent, my dad left before i was born and my sisters dad left later in life... my mom lives with having bipolar disorder..

Crystal, Welcome to PC. I hope you find what you need to here.
I wonder why a psych clinic would let you go without any treatment plan. That sounds very irregular. If you are continuing to have difficulties then you probably need some kind of treatment to help you cope. I have been on some form of medication for decades and it makes the difference between being able to cope and hiding in the closet. Needing medication for this illness is just as justified as it is for any other disease. I hope you can come see it that
way. There are so many to choose from and a good dr will keep trying to find good ones for you until you are OK. Same with talking to someone. So many people here have benefited from it. If you are reticent you can always go slowly. If you can see someone privately may also be helpful.
Please post here as often as you need to. You will see so many people who understand your feelings. We are here to listen.
Thanks for this!

Hi Crystal, welcome. I've suffered from depression for 30 years and have not been able to manage without meds. I have gone for short periods of time without any but I always HAVE to come back to them. Wish I had a miracle solution, but I don't. I know a few on the board do it without meds, but I'm not one of them. Maybe some of them will offer some help.Best wishes.
Gayle

Depression and bipolar often run in families--it's a genetic thing so you were probably programmed for this from birth. That's the case with me, too. Oh, yeah, circumstances add to it, but you may find you need life-long meds to keep you feeling "normal." And therapy will help too. Good luck to you.

True if your mom is bipolar, there is a big chance you may be, What did they say to you at the mental clinic , did they offer meds and you said no . IF they did and you said no then nothing can be done if you don't want it.
