Now I've been diagnosed with Borderline and Avoidant Personality Disorders. To go along with treatment-resistant Major Depressive Disorder, GAD, Social Phobia, an Eating Disorder and an extremely introverted personality.

I just want to cry. I want it all to go away. My anxiety level is sky-high. My Mental Health Team is super helpful. They have explained my new diagnosis with me and told me about the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy group that they have. I have enough symtoms to qualify for entry and have been accepted into the group. I am so upset. More change. Different therapists. Group therapy work with about six other women. Why can't I just get better? It's 16 months of very intensive work. I have to, have to, have to do this. It is my only hope/chance of having something close to a "normal" life.

What has been your experience with DBT?

I am trying to get a neuropsych to see if i have avoidant or just massive anxiety. I think DBT is one of the best methods of coping out there right now. It really takes work to learn and you have to keep at it, so it's not a cure, but it has helped me stay out of a crisis many times. It's the only way I can cope with getting to work and getting through my life some days.

I just found that the idea of staying in the moment is important and finding ways to distract from painful emotions until you can manage them is helpful. It will be better in a group as I am now left to keep my skills up on my own - my own therapist doesn't know dbt and I can't find anyone nearby who does it.

It does sound like you have a super team working with you, and to get you into a treatment tailor-made for you, well, that's awesome. Does sound daunting, though, sixteen months of therapy! But remember, you only have to take things a day at a time and you'll get through it. And maybe, just maybe, things will get easier along the way. For your sake, I hope so.
