For most of my life I am 60 I have been dx with major depression recurrent
In the last few years I have beendx as bipolar I get depressed but I don't get the mania so I din't know. I am taking meds for bipolar and depression. I have thought of changing docs to get another dx some people at my support group have had theirs changed. But I feel if I change docs he will ask for my current docs records and just say the same thing

Hi. Yes see a new doc if you are not happy with dx for a second opinion! Maybe to make it easier, write down your symptoms, what you feel and hand it to him. Point out why you don't think you have it. If he still thinks you have it, then maybe it's time to accept it?

Wishing you all the best

I'd ask for a second opinion, too. What prompted the change, anyways?

I would ask why you want it changed. Do you feel you are not Bipolar? I find if you change psychiatrist most start from stratch and form their own opinion but will probably ask what you have been diagnosed as and what medications you have been on which will tell him a lot.

I know how you feel I'm 54 and I'm diagnosed with bipolar too but I've only been manic when on antidepressants now that I quite taking them I've not had any more mania. According to the book one shouldn't be diagnosed bipolar from drug induced mania. But I'm still stuck with the label, and I feel like I get treated with fear when people hear the label.

I'd definitely get a second opinion from a different doc. Once you've got a dx from one doc, then they're pretty much set on it. Taking meds that you don't need is never really a good idea.
