I am coming to the conclusion that depression never gets better. With meds or not.
In my opinion (for what that is worth) - I think people just get tired of it or accept it. I have tried numerous meds - none work. Now they want to try ECT on me..... I think it is about time to just say _____ it. |

Sometimes I feel like you, nothing seems to make it any better. I do know I have had good times in the past, but it has been so long, if feel like giving up. After as many meds as I've tried I'm afraid ECT will come as a solution soon. I don't know if I can agree to that. That may be when I call it quits as far as looking for a solution. I don't know that I can go there. Best of luck to you.

Sorry, you're wrong. It does get better for many people. I hope people reading this realise that its not doom and gloom forever for everyone.
It can take many different medications and years of therapy. I feel that there are a lot of people who give in far too early then spend years of their life in despair believing what you have just said. If you tell yourself over and over that it will never get better than it never will. Negative thinking like this is common in depression but it is very unhelpful and when you can start to break these unhelpful thinking patterns more often than not, you will start to see improvement in your mood. ECT has been suggested to me many many times and I almost got it involuntarily. I perservered with meds for a long time (10 years of pretty much every med you can imagine) but finally found the right ones, along with long term therapy it has made the most stable I have ever been in my life. If you feel that bad wouldnt you want anything to get you out of it? Stimulants are also a good suggestion, they are often overlooked but are a successful treatment for many. |
