I feel like my depression is behind a dam at the moment.

for me it can feel like it's behind a dam when it feels like it is safely contained for now; or when it is about to burst forth even more from any confines that existed ...
I'm not sure which you are experiencing now ... or if there are other feelings coming up for you instead?

I have similar feelings regarding anxiety and self-hatred. They are usually "dammed," but under the right circumstances or due to some trigger that dam will burst.

I go through states of numbness then intense emotions so I suppose it's a dam it's hiding behind. It's a leaky one though..
