Hi all,
I am new to this forum. I feel like my depression has been getting progressively worse and I don't know what to do. I also suffer from binge eating disorder and general anxiety. I am on 10 mg of fluoxetine and have been for 2-3 years now. I felt like it helped initially but for the last year I've felt it stopped working. I've been afraid to try another medicine for fear of getting sick like I did when I tried Lexapro prior to getting on fluoxetine. Now I am without insurance since I left my job to move closer to home for support so I'm unable to visit my Dr to try to switch. Do y'all have any words of encouragement, advice, holistic ideas to help this chronic fatigue I feel?
Thank you, friends, and be well!
Hugs from:

Welcome to the forum!

I know what you mean about trying new meds. I also am recovering from an ED and have major depressive disorder, and let me tell you, finding meds that were helpful took over a year! Then, just as we found the right combination, and things were going well, about 3 months into that, we found out that my main med was discontinued!

All I can say is make sure you have a good team (GP, Pdoc, T, Nutritionist) and take the time to find the right combo. It may take a while, but once you find it, it will be worth it! Even without insurance it might still be worth tackling. My Nutritionist and Pdoc don't take insurance, so I'm paying out of pocket for them anyway.

Chronic fatigue - have you had your iron checked? You might be anemic? If you can't get it checked, try eating foods high in iron and see if that helps?

Hello & Welcome, Librakitty. Make yourself at home.

The folks at United Way of Metro Atlanta / 211 may be able to direct you to services you can use. Unfortunately, I personally have never found a solution to my chronic listlessness despite consistent medical care.

Hello,

Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate you sharing your experience about finding the rights meds. It surely is a journey.
Ironically enough, I did get my iron checked in the summer. In fact I got a full blood panel done because I wasn't feeling "myself"...everything came back completely normal. :/ Dr didn't have any thoughts other than to attribute my feeling off to the depression/binge eating, which could well be the case.

Thanks again and take good care of yourself.

Well done! Too many illnesses can hide behind depression; getting the full blood panel was wise. Now you can concentrate on depression itself.

A support group can serve as a valuable and free adjunct to treatment:
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Home Page
DBSA Support Groups and Chapters
Consider also looking into support for chronic fatigue, etc.
