In order to make some much needed cash I recently signed up for a phase II clinical trial for an intravenous depression medication. I haven't taken any of my meds. for nearly three weeks since they need to be drained from your system. Surprisingly, I don't really feel as badly as I anticipated feeling, but my mood has been on the downswing lately and I'm having a hell of a time sleeping. The things we do for $$$$!!

I'm considering going off my meds, because my doctor keeps putting me on these newer drugs that cost fortune.

I hope the trial goes well for you.

Yes, that's the reason I started the study, but I've also heard that receiving depression medication through I.V. works a lot faster, so I'm curious to see how it's going to make me feel. On the flip side I'm a little worried that it may make me feel great and then once the study ends I'll feel even worse than when I started out. There's risks involved, but I'm soon to start a new job, so I need the money to prepare for that.

I was taking Prozac for my depression and didn't feel any difference for the longest time. Another Psychiatrist added 900 mgs. daily of Gabapentin as a mood stabilizer and it helped to relax me, but now that I stopped it I can't sleep and end up waking up throughout the night. Like you, my insurance won't cover any of the newer drugs and any drugs that are used in these clinical studies won't even be out for another 5-10 years.

I'm curious as to how you are doing with this because I know it is not advised to abruptly stop an antidepressant.

I knew this but thought "It can't be that bad." I stopped taking abilify and was fine for about a week and then was engulfed in anxiety and dizziness. I definately did not feel like myself. It was awful. It was as bad as dealing with depression only more scary.

I hope you are doing well with this study and wish you well.
Please keep us informed.
