Iam tired of being selfish. I took the Praxis exam I failed it for the third time. Iam not going to let it beat me. Iam going to the learning dissability center, and Iam going to try to get extra time for the test. Thanks for all your encouragement. Pray for me that I can stay focused. I feel like a bug ready to be squashed. It seems the harder I try, the further I fall. Does anyone have suggestions on test taking, ways that I can study, and relax better for a exam. I would really appereciate it.

Hang in there. I cannot say I have any test taking tips. I always did great on multiple choice exams but essays threw me for a loop. I just think I psyched myself out. If I were going to school again, I guess I would try meditation and other relaxation stuff. I would also try to have more trust in myself and all the hard work I did. I used to always be in a space where I would fault myself endlessly and no matter what I did for school it wasn't enough-to my point of view. I think just thinking so negatively hurt me when it came to exams. I think people told me at the time to do my best and then let go but I couldn't hear it. I don't even know what a praxis exam is but please believe in yourself, you are worth it.

I agree that believing in yourself is a good start....I am not familiar with the praxis exam either and I don't understand why you feel selfish.

Just hang in there. you have the desire to do well and that in itself can be of help to you... i'll be thinking of you!
Good Luck with it!Take your time with it.. you'll be fine!

You said you feel selfish for trying to pass an exam, it would be selfish if you did not keep trying...good luck...what is a praxis exam? I am new to the forum so don't know much.

The Praxis Exam is a test for getting into the teaching program. All students have to pass inorder to be in certain courses. If I dont pass it, I can't student teach. funny thing is I want to be an art teacher. The only part of the exam I havent passed is the math. Its the only thing that is holding me back. Its like a thorn in my backside. Iam on the verge of throwing in the towel, and wasting four years of education, because I can not pass one test. I feel like a total failure.

daisy2 do you have the book that helps prepare for the test?

i have many friends who have failed that test more than once eventually they do it the test i know is very hard which is why i haven't taken it i teach special ed so i didn't need to take it........

all i can say is do the practice tests from the book take your time and get a good night sleep before the exam and eat a good breakfast so your brain is sharp.........

I have three books on the Praxis exam, plus Iam taking practice exams on the computer. Iam still struggling. Iam not going to let it beat me. I have come to far to waste my education. I just wish I had a brain for math, then all my problems would be solved.

I am rubbish at math but i needed to do it to get my access to higher education,it is hard but think if the rest seems easy just focus in the math and try to see if you can study past papers,i found them particularly usefull for knowing the type if questions i was facing, and actually a lot of the questions come up again year after year. But whatever you do ,dont throw in the towel,be stubborn and continue, you have come this far so you know you can do it.
Good luck and fill us in with your result if you want.

If you tell your doctor they can give you some pills that calm you down. Makes it easier to think.
Something that can help on the studying is if you find a study group.

Wish you luck and hope you pass the next time. (So stupid that you have to pass a maths test to become an arts teacher!)

Hugs

That is rough, Daisy to have only one thing holding you back. My sister almost didn't get out of college because of algebra for goodness sake. She ended up getting tested and turned out to have a learning disability that enabled her to get out of the requirement. I myself only threw up once over an exam and that was a one credit accounting course, that was pass/fail no less. I don't know how I passed but I did. If you are not going to be teaching math ever, it really does seem unfair. I hope it works out for you
