Hey everyone
It's 3:22 am here, and I still can't seem to fall asleep. I can feel the exhaustion of my body wearing me down, yet my mind is so restless... sometimes it thinks about random things such as the weather, or the work that I need to complete, while at other times it's focused on things that bring me down, my triggers, my struggle with depression. Do any of you have the same struggles? Are you ever unable to sleep even when you're not depressed? It's just... so frustrating, and I'm not sure what to do.

Yep I struggle a lot when it comes to sleeping too. I rely on meds to help. But I'm coming off my meds right now so sleep may soon become a thing of the past again.

Does your doctor know you're struggling with sleep?

I think sleep is such an important part of being well, things are easier with sleep. Do you ever listen to music or anything when you're struggling? I find nice relaxing music can help me.

I hope you can get some sleep soon

Thanks secret! I've been told that I need to just lay down and relax my mind, but that never works. I know some music that's really relaxing - so I'll definitely give that a try Thanks so much again for your reply, and your great advice

Hey sweetie-Yes, I do. I have not slept for more than two to three hours at a time without waking up in I don't know how long. Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep but it's the staying asleep that I have the most trouble with-that and nightmares.

Hey thanks so much Crimson It's so hard sometimes, it's 4:58 am and I've still not yet been able to get some shut eye - so frustrating sometimes... I just get so frustrated!!! But, it looks like tonight might just be another sleepless one, who knows? Maybe I'll catch up on my sleep tomorrow night

My new med citalopram (only 2nd day) seems to have me not able to sleep at all.I know I'm sensitive but this is ridiculous. I found myself smiling yesterday for the first time in such s long time but is it worth no sleep and worse ringing in the ears? Sorry for your struggle with sleep, had it most of my life til I found seroquel.

Thanks Kelly! I'm sorry that citalopram is affecting your sleep - that's a rough bargain... happiness or sleep? I hope that it's worth it, because smiling is such an amazing thing keep hanging in there, and I bet that you'll find something that'll let you have both

I have trouble falling and staying asleep. I am on sleep meds, but they don't seem to be helping much anymore, and definitely going to be talking to my psych about this when I see her. I agree with the music suggestions, I usually need some type of music or the TV on low (try to turn it to something boring). Also, I find reading before bed is good to help me get my mind off my own thoughts, or sometimes I journal to try to get it all out of my head and onto paper. Good luck finding a routine that works for you!!

Hey FM

I have had a lot of issues with this. Once in a while I'll have a few days where I'll go through this and it's so difficult. I'll think I'm ready to pass out but as soon as I lay down my mind wonders.. Then I start to feel lonely bc it's usually 3am or later and everyone is sleeping. I think my mind wonders off to things that I have to do and daily stress but most of the time the cause of it is deeper..it's usually a stress that I caused by my love life or even the stress at home..the stress my parents put me under.. I think my mind tries to mask it with daily stresses.. What has helped me a lot is listening to ocean waves on YouTube and pretending I'm on the ocean

I hope it helps dear

Falsememory, It makes every thing so much more difficult when you dont sleep. You should talk to your g.p. about it. It definately made my depression a whole lot worse. Most nights I take sleeping meds and other nights I take a benzo. I think it works ok for me. Best wishes. Theres nothing worse than wakng up in the morn and feeling like you have not slept \ll night, its enough to make you cry. Best wishes to you.

I usually sleep okay once I actually fall asleep. Falling asleep is my problem and always has been. One reason why I have never been a napper even though I am exhausted. So, I feel you

Thanks for the hugs, Fuzzy and Secret, I feel asleep around 5 for a couple hours, and it really helped. I think I just needed to rest my mind - I'm a lot like you, mzunderstood, and once I'm asleep I can usually stay asleep, because I've overcome a lot of things that I've suppressed over the years... however, when I'm awake, I just can't seem to shake it, you know? Wilted and Pierro, both of the advices that you gave really helped so much i can't thank you enough for helping me out

I have as well. It's horrible, isn't it?

I have trouble falling asleep nearly every night, even if I'm exhausted. I also have trouble staying asleep. I sleep for about three good hours, and then my sleep becomes very easily interrupted.

One time, I went for nearly a month without being able to sleep for more than two hours per night. I thought I was going to go insane. Turns out my internal clock was just out of whack.

It's the worst. I try to not let it get to far, out of hand. Hence, the meds. Exhaustion plays tricks on the mind and body.

for the past 15 years at least I have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. On average it takes me 2 to 4 hours to fall asleep, i toss and turn and think until I fall asleep. Then I wake up every hour or every other hour, and after the 3rd time I can't go back to sleep. I'm ok if I can get at least 4 hours sleep, my average. I need narcotics to knock me out and no one wants to give them to me for long term.

Thanks so much Keaze for your advice - I'm going to try to listen to the sound of ocean waves tonight, to lull me to sleep me4me, i'm sorry that you've experienced sleep exhaustion for such a long time, yet I hope that meds truly help with that Lavender, it looks like you and I are in the same boat - but I hope that you find something that helps you fall asleep easily and stay asleep throughout the night and oh my goodness, Indie. How have you been able to manage 15 years of sleep troubles?? I'm worried for you!

I love the smell of coffee, but HATE the taste.

I do drink Snapple & Dt Dew pretty much daily. I do not think caffine effects me at all anymore.

Seems like since the depression got so much worse I am again. The nightmares are back. I can usually get back to sleep after about 2 hours of calming down which is better than the 2 days before.
