My math teacher has a sign that says "you are responsible for your own happiness" Do you agree with this idea? Mostly, I think if you aren't willing to be happy, you won't be happy, but I also know sometimes it isn't a choice. I was just wondering what other people thought about it, or if other people had some quotes they were iffy about.

I've always disliked quotes like that. They make me really angry sometimes. Its so hard to control how you feel especially if you're depressed. You can't just magically "make yiurself happy" it doesn't work like that. But sometimes I'm like I'M SO HAPPY LIFE IS GREAT WOW HAPPYNESS. So it really varries for me sometimes. I also hate how they say "you can only love someone if you love yourself"
Thanks for this!

at some point I guess I do agree. BUT, I think some of us have chemical issues that puts up a barrier that we require help with first........

I agree only a little. My ex used to always say only you can make yourself happy and that may be a bit true but aren't we supposed to help the ones we love? How many times have we taken someone out to cheer them up, that act of kindness can bring happiness to the person suffering. I think if you followed that statement you would be stripping away humanity and that would make the world a little sadder. If everyone looks after only their happiness where do the random acts of kindness fall. If you help out a fellow and they find joy to see there are good people out there then maybe that contributes to their happiness. Sorry, it just makes me sad to think of everyone in the world trying to make themselves happy and ignoring the plight of their fellow man using the excuse that they can't help them find happiness.
Thanks for this!

Brilliant!!! I hate platitudes at the best of time but you expressed yourself beautifully here and I totally agree.

I agree that you're responsible for the pursuit of your own happiness. But your happiness? No, not really. Not always. Hope that makes sense.

I just think it's unfair to rely on others to make you happy. My mother does this.
