Do any of you have birthday depression like I do? I turn 22 tomorrow and at that time, I'm always aware that I don't have friends to go out with on that day and haven't made any close friends in last year of college. When my family calls and ask where I'm going to celebrate I say nowhere and always feel pressured to go somewhere. Are birthday's really that important? Is it okay to celebrate your birthday alone and not worry about what others think?

birthdays only matter when you are under ten or are turning 18/21. Other than that - they suck.
Thanks for this!

I feel like that too. I really don't care about my birthday and don't want people to wish me happy birthday and all that but at the same time I get really depressed when someone doesn't remember that it's my birthday.

And yes, it is okay to celebrate your birthday on your own, after all it's your birthday and are allowed to celebrate (or not celebrate, for that matter) the way you want to. **** what other people think.

and for some of us - a birthday is a horrible thing.

The BEST side is that you are another year older, but it is also a slap in the face / reminder that you are still stuck on this god-awful planet. Not even God would take me.

Hi, I so relate to birthday depression. I HATE my birthday and get very stressed and depressed leading up to and on my actual birthday. You're not alone

You are not alone. I used to like my birthdays, now I do not care about them. But I think I should. Perhaps it is an issue that comes with depression. It is like I do not like my birthday because I do not like my life. I am trying to draw a better future, but I do not like my present moment.

I hate birthdays, I turned 22 last week. It just makes me remember how years have passed how in the meanwhile nothing really happened in my life, a long existing of anything. I hate what birthdays make me think about me and I hate how others try to make it a big deal when for you is a crappy day. By "luck" in college almost anybody remember the date. I am not important to anybody. I also hide my birthday date on facebook because I hated that even so few people that wished me happy birthday and.really didn't care about me, or know me in anyway. Just almost because it is a convention.
I never had birthday parties beside then home with my family. I hope this don't make you more depressed.

Well said! Birthdays are kind of these weird creatures and ugh I just feel like it's a normal day. This year I might just go buy myself a huuuuge cake and eat it while having a movie marathon.

I think the main thing about birthdays is to give yourself a break But yeah, when you think about the movie world and how birthdays are portrayed :/ sometimes it does feel rather sad and lame
