A staff member who is with the program I'm in comes to my house. I hate these unscheduled home visits. I tried to avoid the session by returning home late but she waited in the parking lot. She said I was intoxicated (which was somewhat true) and tracked her muddy boots all over my clean kitchen floor. Then she grilled me on keeping a gun in the house because she saw some targets on the table, shooting happens to be a sport of mine, and I became uncomfortable. I asked her to please leave several times, she would not do so. That's when I said "well how would it be if I called the cops" then she gathered her things and left. She just really made me annoyed. I would have called the police if she kept this up. Was I completely out of line. I have PTSD and became very anxious when she just stayed there talking to me. Now I would apologize and she is the one trained to handle such episodes, not me. She should have seen I was at my wit's end with her and left. I am terrified she will tell lies and have the "men in white coats" take me. Sorry I had to rant. Hugs

Hey too Shy I definitely do not think you stepped out of line she was the one that did and I believe you asking her to leave several times should have let her know you were uncomfortable with the situation, then she should have apologized and left. What kind of program are you in if I may ask where the staff visit your home?

Well, as you can imagine due to privacy issues I can't really say the agency except we live in rural area and it is kind of an outreach program. I was stalked before and will be damned if I am giving up my gun.

Is there a patient advocate? If there is a hospital running this there probably is.

Are you in the USA? If so she has no legal right to enter your house uninvited unless someone has a warrant to enter. I would stop that right now. Let her sit in the parking lot all she wants but don't let her in. She will probably get mad and may even threaten to take action against you but tell her to bring it on. I would be damned if someone would tell me I could not have a gun unless I was a threat to harm me or someone else.
Talk to her supervisor and say this stops now.

If it is ACT home visits are a part of the service.
Usually mental health professionals are willing to work with you. Perhaps you can ask the lady to meet you at scheduled times. You have to let her and the rest of the people involved in your care know exactly why unannounced visits are intrusive.
