It was okay I guess. I was all panicky though, my voice was all wobbly and I could barely speak, but she put me on 20mg of citalopram. She also wants me to start exercising and gave me 2 names of books she wants me to read. Pshh.

I was on capitalism for 3 years and it worked pretty good for me so good luck! It really calmed me. And yea doctors always say to exercise more which does help but sometimes it is hard to get the motivation.

Going to the doctors can be tough. The fact that you showed up is an accomplishment in itself!

When I started seeing a therapist, I was very young. So spilling my guts now is no big deal.. to strangers at least. I figure the truth hurts no matter what, but once you realize saying it out loud (especially to an objective stranger that you are paying) can't possibly hurt as much as keeping your silence.

It sounds a little silly, but I find that keeping my focus split or my hands busy makes it easier to talk. When I was little, we played a mindless board game. That way when my doctor was asking probing questions, I had an excuse to look/focus on something while pouring my heart out. Now a-days, I prefer Cribbage. If you know the card game and the math, it's diverting enough to be distracting, but mindless enough not to occupy your emotional field. Some people like knitting, making embroidery bracelets, or drawing. Really whatever helps you get through it so you can show up again.

Again, good for you for going in the first place!! The hardest part is breaking the ice.
Thanks for this!
