An interesting thing happened to me in a chat room. I don't frequent them much, I find it too confusing to keep track of a conversation...
Anyway I said "hi" and the lovely people there said hi back....usually "hi sophies".

One person said "hi, person who identifies as someone's mom" (it was simply off the cuff and completely harmless)......I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
It was like some kind of wonderful/terrible revelation to me. It seriously gave me food for thought...

When I joined this forum, I identified myself, completely without thinking, as someone's mom....

The funny thing is, I have four wonderful children, and Sophie is the name of my dog....

So it's a kind of funny/sad/pathetic/ "aha" moment.

I'm thinking of changing it.

And I'm wondering if you all thought about your user names and whether you find them to be revealing...

I am not Clara at all, but it sounds nice, so it's a keeper :-)

My name reveals nothing! But I don't hide anything either.

I think Sophie comes from Sophia that in Greek means wisdom, right? It is a good program!

They are just names we chose but yes they can be revealing. I've wondered about the people who are "someonesmom"... there are several. I usually think that's great that you're someones mom but you're also someone else...you. Maybe that's what the chat person was thinking?
I've been here several years and seen threads like this and other threads that recur with newer members. I usually just smile to myself and skip them. Glad I clicked on this.
I agree that you should change your name Useless Me. It's kind of negative reinforcement. Trust me.. you don't need that I don't know that we're all here for a reason but... we are here and we can find reasons. Good ones. You could be kind_me or helpful_me
BTW George H was a character I liked in a movie. A lawyer for the poor. A well-meaning and likeable screwup who didn't understand (or couldn't face) why the world (people) was the way it is

Thank you. It's meant to be a lighthearted thread, George.....I have no belief that I could make a difference at all.
A smile is a good thing.

Aaaaannnnnd we have another vote....

I like stars... But that's about it. I don't know how I came up with the rest of my username.

Generally I go by one username pretty much everywhere but I figured I don't really want this connected so I chose a username that seemed to fit with what I was here to do. That and I can now use it to make silly pun references and etc so that's a major bonus in my book :P

That's how i came to choose, this one, back in '07. Although, I must say, at least those who mentioned it that way, to you, were courteous enough to flat out state what triggered them or how they viewed it. I was, elsewhere, and felt completely ignored. And, i wondered if choosing a name such as 'mommy3boysxxxxxx', was off putting? as limiting myself as just a mom. Also, were the ppl I was surrounded by, filled with 'mommy issues'?
It was a different type of psyche board, and as I was working through figuring out, how I landed in the marriage i was in, i was rediscovering my long lost self. I tried to find what fit me, suited me...
And healingme4me,, came to be.

I meant my user name to be OriginallyMe, but I was fatigued and somehow ended up with TheOriginalMe. Ever since ( a whole week now!!!!) I've thought it sounds arrogant.

I didn't perceive it as arrogant.

I chose my name so that it would reveal as little as possible about me. I literally sat in my living room running through names of inanimate objects, trying to find one that I liked. "Couch...driveway...sandpaper...coffee.....mmm, coffee... Espresso.....yeah, that works." The funny thing is, I like coffee, but I don't really drink very much of it.
